GAMBRILLS, MD – James Mackey and Nathan Smith, two employees at Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation, recently received the Certified Low Voltage Technician (CLVLT) certification from the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), formerly known as the Low Voltage Lighting Institute of the Americas (LVLIA).

Mackey, a sales representative who lives in Crofton, has been working for Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation for eight years. He started as a laborer, then moved into service and currently works in sales and management. Mackey also helps develop marketing strategies to gain new clients.

Smith, director of sales and operations, lives in Shady Side and has eight years of irrigation and lighting experience. He has been working for Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation for six years. During that time, Smith has installed numerous projects of varying complexity.

In order to receive their CLVLT certifications, Mackey and Smith had to pass an extensive exam—consisting of both written and hands-on testing—that assessed their knowledge and abilities in all aspects of low voltage landscape lighting. CLVLT is a self-study program; a study guide is provided to help prepare for the exam.

The LVLIA/AOLP is a group of contractors, manufacturers, lighting designers and landscape architects from the United States and Canada who work together to improve the low voltage lighting industry worldwide. The association strives to represent contractors and to promote excellence in the low voltage architectural and landscape lighting industry.

“Atlantic encourages its employees to pursue all educational opportunities in the outdoor lighting and irrigation fields,” said Steven Flury, owner of Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation. “This knowledge is a powerful tool that allows us to provide dynamic and creative lighting designs using the latest products and installations of the highest integrity. These certifications also guide our employees in the design of efficient irrigation systems that will conserve water. The bottom line: This education and certification provides better solutions and service for our customers.”

Located in Gambrills, Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation has been designing, installing and maintaining landscape lighting and irrigation systems for private residences and commercial properties for nearly 20 years. The company has been actively involved in the LVLIA/AOLP for three years.
