Meet Our Staff of Professionals

Steven H. Flury, President

Steven, the owner and president of Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation, started the company in 1988 with his wife Dianne. They have operated a Christian company, setting high standards for their employees and their business practices. And they believe that this approach has helped Atlantic earn respect nationwide. To ensure complete customer satisfaction, the company conducts business according to the following philosophy: They install every irrigation and lighting system as if it were their own. With that principle to guide them, there is never a sacrifice in quality.

Born in Washington, D.C., Steven was raised in Prince George’s County. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended law school while establishing a career in the “green industry,” which has spanned 35 years.

Steven has received several Irrigation Association (IA) certifications, including Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC), Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) and Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA). He is also a member in good standing of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC).

Nathan Smith, Director of Sales and Operations

Nathan has been in the “green industry” for more than 16 years and has eight years of irrigation and lighting experience. He has worked for Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation for six years. During that time, he has installed numerous projects of varying complexity.

While working for Atlantic, Nathan has enrolled in various Irrigation Association (IA) programs. He received the Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) certification and the Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) certification and is currently enrolled in the Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) program. He also received the Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) certification from the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), formerly known as the Low Voltage Lighting Institute of the Americas (LVLIA).

Nathan, who lives in Shady Side with his wife and three children, has been in the U.S. Army Reserves for 10 years.

James Mackey, Sales Associate and Safety Officer

James has worked for Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation for eight years. He started as a laborer, then moved into service and currently works in sales and management. He also helps develop marketing strategies to gain new clients.

A resident of Crofton for 26 years, James holds a degree in communications with a minor in business administration from Salisbury University. He received the Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) certification from the Irrigation Association (IA) and is planning to obtain the Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) certification. He also received the Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) certification from the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), formerly known as the Low Voltage Lighting Institute of the Americas (LVLIA).

In addition to his work at Atlantic, James has also been an EMT/Firefighter and Rescue Technician for the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) for six years. He administers an aggressive safety program for Atlantic to help prevent work related injuries.
